Pictures is a quick-playing family game with very simple rules. Form the image on your secret picture card with one set of components, either shoelaces, color cubes, icon cards, sticks and stones or building blocks in such a way that the other players guess what image you have pictured:
Pull out a marker from the bag that determines your secret picture card.
Then form that image with your components in such a way that it is recognizable.
And finally guess what image each other player has pictured.
The players get points for correctly guessing other players images and for other players guessing their image. The most points wins!

I didn't mind my play of this game, but I will not be returning to it. Sometimes you hope that the picture you draw is attemptable with the components you have but neither accounts for anything when you play with idiots.

Confession: I dislike the fact that I like this game. It's very simplistic, and doesn't feel like a game: it's more of an activity... however it's a pretty nice experience, full of creativity and artistic thinking. It feels almost like a kindergarten game, but it's actually for adults (i.e., not Kids). The fotos are weird, but, rarely, very well suited for what the game wants to accomplish. Really nice, different, game. Definitely on the lighter side of a party game. You can get pretty much everyone, including grandma, to play this, and everyone will have fun. Not ultra fun. But fun. Confession 2: if it wasn't by the fact that it won Spiel des Jahres, i would not have bought, nor kept this game.

For our first play, we laughed our butts off! And we were duly impressed by some of the creativity that came out everyone. Thank you SdJ jury for nominating this game and bringing it to our attention. We enjoyed it very much. Does it have legs? Um, maybe not. Does it need more pictures? Sure, we'd probably enjoy that. Mainly, we can't wait to share this with others. I would rate higher, but we don't play this very often. We'll see if the new expansion helps.
