Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The simultaneous action selection mechanic lets players secretly choose their actions. After they are revealed, the actions resolve following the rule-set of the game.

I really like this double-thinking little push your luck game. It's fun, it plays fast, and I might have to track down my own copy eventually.

Played twice at Origins. There are some things I really like about it; it takes the model of For Sale's second auction and resolves the turn order question that manifests itself in the first auction by having the rotating totem pole resolve ties (so you don't need a unique card deck to resolve them for you). The totem is simultaneously clunky (reference card, then totem, then your position in line), and really nice as it's not a raw turn order resolution so much as a resolution that changes based on whether it's an up/down card slot. The downside is that the last quarter of the game or so is auto pilot due to the diminishing options left in your hand vs everyone else's, especially if they are looking at card play with single optimization. I think it's possible to structure your hand for that end game and clean up (I did in one of my games), so I'm curious what would happen if everyone accepted that default mode of play. Neat game, I'd play it some more, but I'm not sure I'd pay standard price for it. 6/10, potential to drop to a 5. I suspect ultimately a churn game.

Its an interesting card game, simultaneous reveal of chosen cards to jostle for collecting fish based on the numbers revealed. I think there is a good amount of strategy here but the end scores were wildly different, and it is a bit of a shame you actually play through the whole deck each time, so you are guaranteed to see three of the four jellyfish and thus it is easy for one person to collect them all to discard as the points are so negative others cannot risk taking one of them to make you keep the other two (-10 and -15 when fish themselves vary from 1-15 at most). The last few rounds are quite uninteresting and you are simply playing what is left, so its almost random what you actually get. I might try a variant whereby if you fail to get a fish (i.e in more than 3 players) you can return your diver to your hand. and I think if you tie leaving the fish where they are as suggested as an variant in the rules booklet might also add to this one Sold in 2022.
