Good roll-and-write with strategic planning. I really like the unknown scoring order and the increasing score requirement. It is a bit dry, and I still think games like Karuba do this idea a bit better...still, more interesting than it looks on first glance.

Kokoro: Avenue of the Kodama uses the same art as Kodama which is a pretty and fun little game. However, that’s where the similarities end. In Kokoro you are trying to connect spaces on the board by drawing lines with dry markers. Every round a card is flipped over to tell the shape of the line you are allowed to draw this time. The box is absolutely beautiful, but the playerboards and the cards do not quite have the same appeal. As a puzzle Kokoro is great fun. However, personally I missed greater strategic depth from the game since the there seemed to be only one winning strategy, i.e., try to draw one long line connecting all sanctuarys and guardians. Perhaps the game could have benefitted from some incentivens to have a maximum number of routes instead of just one. I recommend this for groups and families that do not care so much about longer term thinking.

Great flip and write. I’m not always a big fan, but this combo of simplicity and push your luck worked really fantastic. My only worry is I did incredibly well my first game. I would have done even better if I didn’t get the rules wrong for guardian scoring initially lol. So as a solo game I don’t see myself playing it much as I’m already too good at it lol. But, while getting a solo game was my goal, I got a really elegant gateway game that I’d pick over many. Note to future self: you have the Kickstarter version.
