Pattern Building is a system where players place game components in specific patterns in order to gain specific or variable game results. For example: placing chips on 2, 4, 6, 8 on a board gets the player an action card they can use later in the game.
Pattern Building
Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.

I love the art in this polyomino game, but I think it ended up being too simple for me, and by the end it was pleasant but not satisfying, almost as a nice solo way to pass the time while around other people. I found the mechanisms in Patchwork to be far more interesting, and Indian Summer the choices don't seem as obviously impactful as you would expect from this sort of game. Sure there are little combos you can do here and there, but it was mostly just... inoffensive, I think is the best way to describe it. Nice, but not memorable.

Another beautiful game by Rosenberg. When you are done, your board is very beautiful. I would have changed it a bit and have made more ways to get animal tiles. It seems we rarely use any of them except for the small one.

I'm a huge fan of tile laying games. I love the artwork and theme of this one, it's my favorite of the trilogy in that sense. I think I like the gameplay of cottage garden slightly more though. I like how it's different in the fact that there is no scoring, it's just who finishes their board first.
