This mechanic requires you to place a bid, usually monetary, on items in an auction of goods in order to enhance your position in the game. These goods allow players future actions or improve a position. The auction consists of taking turns placing bids on a given item until one winner is established, allowing the winner to take control of the item being bid on. Usually there is a game rule that helps drop the price of the items being bid on if no players are interested in the item at its current price.
Auction/Bidding
Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.

First you do auctioning for half an hour or so. Then the players won't get the ball to stay on the track through the first connection point. What a bummer. This game won't bring a smile on anyone's face, not even the winner's.

Played a game of this at Essen. The gameplay did not feel very engaging, but I am not fully sure, if we did everything correctly, since the explanation was bad. While the components are beautiful, they did not fit together very well and rolling the marble in the end did not work at all since it either flipped out of the track or did not even climb the first hill when started from a much higher position. Did not like it.

Playing Coaster Park was such a disappointing experience. I was expecting a cute light game that exploits the novel fun of rolling a marble down a thing that looks like a roller coaster. There are two big problems with the game: 1) The game actively gets in the way of your fun. You desperately want to play with the roller coasters you're building, but the rules prevent you from doing it. You can only play with your roller coasters at certain points in the game. Your main activity is suffering through boring auctions. The gameplay mechanisms do not support the theme and they also do not take advantage of the main draw of the game -- the roller coasters!! 2) The roller coasters don't work very well. When you finally do get to play with the roller coasters you discover that it's pretty tricky to get the marble to run past more than one piece after the first steep hill. It simply doesn't work very well as a toy. So what you're left with is a poor excuse for a toy wrapped in a bad game. Great idea, horrible execution. I will happily never play this again.
