Capone: The Business of Prohibition (Kickstarter Edition)
45m - 70m
2 - 5 Players
Ages 14+
This mechanic requires you to place a bid, usually monetary, on items in an auction of goods in order to enhance your position in the game. These goods allow players future actions or improve a position. The auction consists of taking turns placing bids on a given item until one winner is established, allowing the winner to take control of the item being bid on. Usually there is a game rule that helps drop the price of the items being bid on if no players are interested in the item at its current price.
Auction/Bidding
Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
In games with a trading mechanic, the players can exchange game items between each other.

I love auction games. I love trading games. Bohnanza and Modern Art are two of my favorites. My game group has an uproarious time playing those, so I expected good things from Capone. It fell completely flat. The game design fell short. The "free for all" trading winds up focused on the truck winner, and that just becomes a shop because they need to offload their haul (5 player game)

Pro: nice components, easy to teach, nice design aesthetic. Con: whoever doesn't win the initial auction is in a battle for second place, while the winner gets further and further ahead.

Once again El Dorado games has quality components but weak game design. Game is gorgeous and the inherent gameplay of trading spirits for patrons IS fun. However the Auction Mechanics give one player too much power and waiting your turn to deal with the truck winner isn't enjoyable. A few more tweaks to gameplay would've made this a must buy. Will keep in collection for the production value and will try and amend the broken gameplay with some house rules.
