Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Deck building/Pool building refers to a collection of related mechanisms. Players have a personal pool, or collection, of cards or tokens, that provide different actions and/or resources. A subset of those cards/tokens are randomly drawn each turn.
Deck / Pool Building
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

Another one of those games where the game itself is greater than the sum of it's worker placement parts. Always tight and interesting with just enough tension.

Elegantly solves two important problems when you have 5 players: 1) when you have so many players, there's chance one of them is new and wants to learn the rules as quickly as possible; 2) most of your board games don't support 5 players well. Of course, it's also a nice game at 2, 3 or 4 players. But I see good 5p play as an extra selling point of Concordia. And, what's the last time I see a weight 3 board game with a rulebook of only 4 pages? That's the charm.

October 2022 - 10 - 10+ plays + Fantastic game. + Hand management decisions choosing when to play the cards lead to great decisions. + Simple rules, medium weight, lots of depth of play. + Lots of expansion maps add additional tweaks for even more replayability. + Buying cards for more actions which are also used for scoring at the end of the game works very well. + Plenty of interaction with other players but often complementary where it isn't hurting the other player, sometimes befitting both players. = Most my our games have been at 2 player which isn't ideal due to less interaction with other players. - Scoring is a bit confusing your first play or two.
