This War of Mine: The Board Game
45m - 120m
1 - 5 Players
Ages 18+
In Action Point (AP) Allowance System games, each player is allotted a certain amount of points per round. These points can be spent on available actions, until the player does not have enough remaining to "purchase" any more actions.
Action Point Allowance System
Co-operative play encourages or requires players to work together to beat the game.
Cooperative Play
Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Games where you repeat an action (or part of an action) until you decide to stop due to increased (or not) risk of losing points or your turn.

Some board games incorporate elements of role playing. It can be that players control a character that improves over time. It can also be a game that encourages or inspires storytelling.
Role Playing
In storytelling games, players are provided with conceptual, written, or pictorial stimuli which must be incorporated into a story of the players' creation.
Storytelling
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

I played it single. (My s.o. had a „no story-bound game“ week. Whatever.) The game has definitely a thrill to it. And thankfully, the instructions are marvelously easy to comprehend. I have no problem with the game being too difficult to beat, as some say, but I have two general issues: 1) characters die so often (after being cranky all the time like some sickly tamagotchi that got depressed and hurt) and new characters come, that I started to feel disconnected with my characters. It just stopped bothering me if they died and that was the contrary effect of what the game tries to achieve. 2) at some point it got boring/tedious to repeat the same and same and same stuff. Besides the „survival-Sims-factor“ where you have mostly to focus on taking care of your daily needs, doing or trying always to do the same becomes less and less thrilling. This game is set for a lot of hours of game time. If you have time and play it as me within two days, after repeating the same stuff for 8 hours, it becomes tedious. Sure, you can enter different places during raids and you can encounter several dangers... but they all become more of the same old same old after a while. There is not much that really changes things up. And imagine doing the same stuff for 13 hours (thats how long it took me to play) and then loose. Not that loosing is a problem by itself. But how likely are you going sit down and retry it for the next 10+ hrs Session? All in all its still enjoyable, but not as conceptually good as e.g. Robinson Crusoe.

Not sure why this game exists except the designers desire to create a product to commemorate the siege of Sarajevo. To that end, they succeeded to create a game that feels dark, depressing, raw, and it is nearly impossible to win. I played 6 times solo, died before the end of chapter one 5 of the 6 times. On the 6th, I managed to reach Chapter 3 where I rolled a 1 and was killed by a sniper. It is a decent game, innovative and easy to set up and play with its unique way of presenting rules as you need them. But it is so depressing that I just don't want to keep playing it to try and win. So ultimately, it is a good game about a depressing subject and is extremely hard to win. I think that explains why I really don't want to play it any more.

Great experience in an immersive story. The gameplay is confused because the mechanichs are driven by a moltitude of cards and text, sometimes not properly interconnected.
