Eldritch Horror: Masks of Nyarlathotep is an expansion for Eldritch Horror, a cooperative boardgame for one to eight players where intrepid investigators must traverse the globe in an attempt to thwart the cataclysmic rise of an otherworldly Ancient One. Strange cults are gathering strength in remote corners and bustling cities all over the world. Though they seem to worship different gods, the investigators have found a thread that runs throughout all of the cultists’ horrific rites.

Big box which offers a small package, makes the game tad easier and does not provide challenging Old Ones. Still wraps the series up well. Recommended if you have the whole bundle.

The game needed a campaign that was not too strict and not too difficult and easy to set up and play. It succeeded and still some idiots complain. In order to even have an interesting campaign you need a system that allows you to win a few times at the very least, so the designers introduced a resource tool to help you out and make it just a bit easier to control things. And yet another group complained... without even trying or playing... Typical for this age and time. The expansion introduces story telling of investigatorsn a light but very challenging campaign mode and a new dice controlling tool (resources) with a bunch of very interesting investigators and yep ... 2 end bosses. Buy it, it complements the EH collection perfectly.

This is an excellent expansion. While it is a "big box" expansion, this does not contain a new board. It contains a couple of new old ones, more cards of every main type, a couple of new investigators, and personal quests. The personal quests are unique to each investigator, and has a reward and a consequence. So the reward may trigger if you've explored three expeditions / mystic ruins, but the consequence may trigger if 8 clues are on the board at the same time. Once one triggers, the other cannot be obtained. Rewards can do things like give you bonus actions, grant tokens 1/turn, give you artifacts, etc. Consequences can give you penalties in certain situations or on types of actions, cost you cards, etc. In all, it adds a little bit more immersion and makes every character just a little more unique.
