Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.
Variable Player Powers
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

The iconography killed this game for us. It would have certainly been better on our second or third game, but I couldn't convince anyone at the table to give it another try. I hope the upgrade mechanism will be reimplemented in a more streamlined game.

There are some interesting mechanisms about upgrading your workers as the game goes on. I definitely was out of the game the first time I played, but it was interesting to see the combos between the workers (with their add-ons), building spaces on the board, and the bonuses from the spaces built upon. I would play again, and would hope to do better the second time.

First off, I don't like games where I need to feed my people, so this game already started on the wrong foot for me. Add to that the fact that I didn't really care for what you were trying to do in the game, which made for such an ordinary and forgettable experience, that we abandoned the game before the end.
