Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

Crystal canyon board is mesmerizingly beautiful. Have yet to play tower side. Looks good though. Can't wait to try the portals.

Yeah, now this is great! A double sided board with 2 maps. The canyon map is the one I liked less. It has mostly high ground. So, if you get stuck in the canyon spaces, you will have to use extra cards to climb out. Also, the spaces are spread out more (with areas with no spaces blocking areas), so more move cards must be used. This was fun, but it makes the game longer. Combat was used much more in this game. The other side is the Wizard's Tower. This was fabulous. An outdoor map that has 5 Portal spaces. These are all over the board but they are considered adjacent for movement and attacking. You can do some very sneaky things with this. The middle space is the Tower itself. It isn't numbered, but if you get a character on thee, it is considered adjacent to every space on the board! I got Tak for the Circus team (my favorites) onto this spot and I was just blasting everyone I could. This is a keeper. I wasn't interested in getting anything more for Wildlands, but with how much I liked this, I think I might get the 2nd map pack. Excellent!

Played just the Canyons map. Very nice twist where no players want to fall to the holes, because there is not way back there alive.
